Trip to India

Snow Leopard Conservation in India

This summer several students from Godalming College embarked on an expedition to India for 4 weeks. They travelled to the Himalayan region of Ladakh close to the border with Tibet to work with the Snow Leopard Conservancy Trust India whose programs are meticulously designed to conserve the mountain eco-system in collaboration with local communities.

After acclimatising to the altitude, the group worked for 7 days building an animal corral for a family that had seen 60% of their herds killed every year by snow leopards. The new corral was designed with features that ensured future livestock would be safe at night from predation.

Following on from the project phase, the group set off on their 7 day trek up the Markha Valley which saw them reach an altitude of 5250m!

Godalming College work in partnership with True Adventure who run expeditions every summer.
