Advanced Study Programme (Level 3)

You are able to choose an Advanced Study Programme that is individualised to suit your interests and abilities. It will provide you with the knowledge skills and experiences to progress successfully to university, an apprenticeship or employment.

Your Advanced Study Programme (Level 3) will typically consist of 3 core subjects +1 additional option. In the first year this might be an AS course progression option or enrichment such as port, music or drama. 

In the second year your +1 might be a progression option such as The Extended Project Qualification , Arts Award, Core Maths or a Sports Leaders Award.

GCSE qualifications are most suitable for Level 3 study. A lack of GCSE English Language at grade 4 will significantly restrict study programme options. Equivalent qualifications at Level 2 in vocational courses are accepted, provided they are related to the course which has been applied for. However, theses courses are not adequate for entry alone for an Advanced Study Programme and would always need to be accompanied by an appropriate range of GCSEs.

What is an Advanced (Level 3) Qualification

At Godalming College we offer A Levels, Pre-U and BTEC Nationals. They attract UCAS points for university and are useful to provide evidence of advanced level study for employers and apprenticeship providers.

Advanced (Level 3) Entry Requirements

If you achieve at least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 you will qualify for study on a Level 3 programme. GCSEs are the most suitable qualifications for study at this level. See individual course for additional entry requirements in some subjects.

Season 2 begins...

ClassAction is where students achieve great things in academic, vocational and artistic studies. We began Season 2 in January with “Let The Right One In” – a brilliant new text, and ClassAction were one of the first companies outside of its professional run, to be given the opportunity to work with Jack Thorne’s evocative play. Based on the novel and film by John Ajvide Lindqvist “Let The Right One In” is an enchanting, brutal vampire myth and a coming-of-age love story performed by our Performing Arts Diploma Company in a visually compelling production that covered STUDIO 816 in fake snow to evoke the Scandinavian setting of the original source material.

The following week :INMOTION: gave us an evening of performance in movement; contemporary technique and physical theatre. Andrew Pullen, Head of Drama and Dance said “it was wonderful to see our students exploring text and physical theatre and creating mature and developed pieces of performance, they tackled the work with a drive and a passion, which they have taken into their own performance practice.” The audience were treated to an eclectic mixture of dance, physical theatre and spoken word that aimed to question the world in which we live, the societies and communities we are creating and the language we use to attack and defend. 

The centre piece of Season 2 is our 360 Degrees Festival of contemporary theatre, exploring current issues and also current theatre practice; in all 10 re-interpretations of contemporary texts were created by our ClassAction practitioners. We were interested here in exploring the idea of abuse and escape in a contemporary world and texts range from Genet’s The Maids, through Kane’s Cleansed and Laura Wade’s Posh – we also worked with the new version of Stone’s Yerma – a professional production of which has just finished its London run and is soon to head to Broadway.

Here at ClassAction we are interested in exploring and playing with contemporary theatre practice and we realise the best work is made in a creative environment within a firm framework of teaching and learning. If a student is determined on a life devoted to dance, musical theatre, or drama and theatre, then this could well be the right place. Our results and the work created testifies to our success, as does the range of successful ex-students now working and studying in the creative industries.

The teaching-team is driving the development of the department, embracing new expanded course offerings and the new drive towards performance preparation which is under pinned with academic rigour. That is just within the college’s walls – without, on any one night this week you could have seen ex Godalming students in a range of performances and technical support roles including, Les Miserables the national tour of Shrek, the West End production of “A Comedy About A Bank Robbery”, production managing Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, artistic directing The Vault Festival in Waterloo. Offers have also just started coming in for our current practitioners including from Trinity Laban, Evolution, M.A.D.D. PPA and recalls at RADA and Central. ClassAction really is a #classact.
