Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness BTEC National (Level 3) Certificate/Extended Certificate

The BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport (one A Level equivalent) offers a broad basis of study for the sport sector. The qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels. It is a two year course and you will study Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training, Professional Development and Leadership.

The Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership will be completed as part of this qualification.

Additional
Grade 4 in GCSE Maths, English and Science or the equivalent in other qualifications and an interest in sport.
Assessment
There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments together with externally assessed units. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* are awarded which are the equivalent of A Levels for university entrance.
Progression
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate is widely accepted and accredited by the vast majority of universities as an excellent foundation for degree. The aim of this course is to give the student an opportunity to investigate the breadth of the industry, so that they are able to make informed choices regarding future employment opportunities such as: provision of individual / group sports activities, health promotion, coaching/instructing of specialist groups and community development. The course is also very suitable for progression to Higher Education courses in sports development, management and coaching, but also actively supports a variety of subject combinations.
