Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness BTEC National (Level 3) Extended Diploma

The BTEC National Extended Diploma is a full-time course in its own right. The Extended Diploma covers a range of topics designed to develop your thinking, behaving and physical competences. You will look at areas such as anatomy and physiology, fitness testing, sports coaching and event organisation. You will also be given the opportunity to develop work based skills through experience in various leadership and volunteering settings. The full qualification will take two years to complete. This qualification is particularly appropriate for learners who are interested in progressing to a career in sports development or coaching either directly (with governing body qualifications) or via higher education.

The Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership will be completed in the first year and level 3 Sports Leadership during the second year of the course.

Additional
Grade 4 in Maths, English and Science or the equivalent in other qualifications and an interest in sport.
Assessment
There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments together with externally assessed units. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* are awarded which are the equivalent of A levels for university entrance.
Progression
The aim of this course is to give the student an opportunity to investigate the breadth of the industry, from health and fitness and sports therapy to sports coaching, so that they are able to make informed choices regarding future employment opportunities such as: provision of individual / group sports activities, health promotion, coaching/instructing of specialist groups and community development. The course is also very suitable for progression to Higher Education courses in sports development, management and coaching and we have recently had students gain places on Sports Injuries and Chiropractic degrees.
