Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness BTEC National (level 3) Extended Diploma

Sport Development, Coaching and Fitness BTEC National (level 3) Extended Diploma

There are two BTEC National courses available to choose from according to the degree of specialism in Sport that you wish to follow.

The BTEC National Extended Diploma is a full-time course in its own right, although you may wish to study additional courses alongside it. The Extended Diploma covers a range of topics designed to develop your thinking, behaving and physical competences. You will look at areas such as anatomy and physiology, fitness testing, sports coaching and event organisation. You will also be given the opportunity to develop work based skills through experience in various leadership and volunteering settings. The full qualification will take two years to complete, although it is designed to ensure that you will cover the units to obtain an Extended Certificate at the end of year one. This qualification is particularly appropriate for learners who are interested in progressing to a career in sports development or coaching either directly (with governing body qualifications) or via higher education.

The level 2 Award in Sports Leadership will be completed as part of both these qualifications and level 3 Sports Leadership as part of the 2nd year of the Extended Diploma

Additional
Grade 4 in Maths, English and Science or the equivalent in other qualifications e.g. BTEC Extended Certificate, and an interest in sport.
Assessment
BTEC Nationals in 2017 will use both internal and external testing. The external testing will include written examinations and set written tasks of a vocational nature.
Progression
The aim of this course is to give the student an opportunity to investigate the breadth of the industry, from health and fitness and sports therapy to sports coaching, so that they are able to make informed choices regarding future employment opportunities such as: provision of individual / group sports activities, health promotion, coaching/instructing of specialist groups and community development. The course is also very suitable for progression to Higher Education courses in sports development, management and coaching.
