Performing Arts BTEC National (Level 3) Extended Certificate
This Performing Arts course gives you an understanding of all aspects of Performing Arts including acting and dance options, and combines it with the opportunity to focus on both performance and production support. You will work as part of the College’s ClassAction Performance Company and you will be challenged to work to professional standards of creative collaboration. This is a practical vocational course, requiring imagination, sensitivity and the ability to get on well with others. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. There are high expectations of students on this course, but it also offers the opportunity to perform with the best at the very highest level. You will be encouraged to find your own unique artistic voice as a practitioner.
On this course, students study both the theory and practice of a wide range of theatre styles. The course demands practical, creative and communication skills in equal measures. You will enjoy the course if you wish to develop your own skills, with an opportunity to specialise in different performance genres that you want to develop;
- Understanding of all aspects of performing arts
- An insight into the nature of the performing arts industry
- Understanding of employment opportunities, constraints and the issues facing professionals working with the sector
- A knowledge of the working methods used by professionals; as an individual in teams, with clients, commissioners and audiences.
You will develop skills that allow you to stage your own production events, whist also learning to record development and progress in order to reflect upon your own professional practice.
Students from the department have been successful in progressing to RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Lamda, GSA, East 15, Drama Centre, Mountview, Arts Ed, Birds, Performers, LABAN, The Place, Urdang.
Entry requirements: Grade 4 in English; a GCSE in a performance art subject is desirable, although an experience of performance and/or production is also appropriate. You need a genuine interest in performance/theatre and to be prepared to work practically at all times.
Course assessment: There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments, together with externally assessed examined units. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the prupose of university entrance.
