Applied Science BTEC National (level 3) Extended Certificate
The course builds upon all three of the sciences focussing on broadening your understanding and application of science.
You will look into the main principles of Chemistry, study the structure and function of cells in Biology and working with waves in the Physics part of the course. In the second year you will carry out a series of investigations as well as studying diseases and infections.
This course is equivalent to 1 A-level.There is an option of studying the course for one year and leaving with a BTEC National (level 3) Certificate, equivalent to half an A-level.
Entry requirements: This course is specifically for those wishing to study a broad science course at A level standard. Therefore the entry requirements are a grade 4 in GCSE Science together with a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and English.
Course assessment: There will be a combination of internally assessed practical assignments (40%), and externally assessed examined units (60%) sat in June each year. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the purpose of university entrance.
