Media: Creative Digital Media Production BTEC National (level 3) Diploma

The BTEC Diploma in Creative Digital Media Production is an exciting and practical course which offers a number of transferable skills in preparation for employment or further educational study in areas of television and film. It is an industry focussed two-year course in which you will be working on a number of different units, exploring behind the scenes in the television and film industries and producing practical and written assignments. You will focus on different areas of the creative media industry that employers and companies have identified as desirable skills in employees and in addition, may have opportunities to gain work experience in the film and TV industry. Units include - Fiction Film; Screenwriting; Single-camera Production; Responding to a Brief; Editing; and Multi-camera Production. Whilst much of the practical work will be carried out in groups, it is also worth noting that there is a significant written element to the course.

Grade 4 in GCSE English or Media Studies, or a Pass at BTEC First Award
Assessment
There will be a combination of internally assessed practical projects and assignments, together with externally assessed examined units. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the purpose of university entrance.
Progression
For those interested in pursuing their studies and training in the media there are many HND and degree courses. These are of several kinds.

There are courses that are:

• largely practical in nature and are designed for those who want to work in the industry

• wholly theoretical, designed for people with an academic interest in the media

• most commonly, those that contain a balance of practical and theory
