Performing Arts BTEC National (Level 3) Diploma

Performing Arts BTEC National (Level 3) Diploma

We recommend this course for those that are looking for a wrap-around foundation programme, those who are looking to go onto drama/performing arts schools. We strongly suggest including Drama and Theatre A Level in your choices to create an extensive theatrical programme. An EPQ in Performance or an Arts Award can be added in the second year to provide extension of your studies in this area.

This course gives you an understanding of all aspects of Performing Arts including acting and dance options, and combines it with the opportunity to focus on both performance and production support. You will work as part of the College’s ClassAction Performance Company and you will be challenged to professional standards of creative collaboration. This is a practical vocational course, requiring imagination, sensitivity and the ability to get on well with others. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. There are high expectations of students on this course, but it also offers the opportunity to perform with the best at the very highest level. You will be encouraged to find your own unique artistic voice as a practitioner.

Grade 4 in GCSE English as well as experience of performance and/or production. Related qualifications in drama or dance will be an advantage.
There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments, together with externally assessed examined units. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the purpose of university entrance.
BTEC Dance can lead to degree courses in Dance, Performing Arts and Education, professional performance work, community work and therapy courses. This course gives students a wide choice of progression options.

As well as students studying the range of performing art subjects at many universities, over the past few years we have had students gain places at institutes such as RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Lamda, GSA, East 15, Drama Centre, Mountview, Arts Ed, Birds, Performers, LABAN, London Contemporary Dance School, Urdang.

The futures for our students are bright and exciting and future careers for ClassAction practitioners are rich and diverse as we develop the dance makers of the future.
