Film Studies AS and A Level
Film Studies is designed to introduce you to a wide variety of film texts, in order to broaden your knowledge and understanding of film and the range of responses it can generate. In the first year of the course you will study mainstream American cinema, as well as recent contemporary British films, with specific units covering American independent and European, non-English language films. In the second year of the course you will also study silent film, documentary, experimental and short films.
Although not a wholly practical course, production work is a crucial part of Film Studies- engaging in a wide variety of film styles, periods and movements will enable you to create high quality short moving image sequences and screenplay work.
Entry requirements: Grade 4 in English, Film or Media Studies. There is a substantial essay writing component to this course.
Course assessment: Two written examinations (70%) and practical coursework (30%).
