Information Technology BTEC National (Level 3) Certificate/Extended Certificate

This two year Extended Certificate is divided into six units: two core units that provide a basic grounding in IT and four specialist units, which include Computer Games Prototyping, Website Production, Computer Animation and Digital Graphics. You will have an opportunity to develop your employability and communication skills in IT via classwork and work experience as well as improving your study, presentation and research skills. The full qualification will take two years to complete and is equivalent to one A Level. It is designed to ensure that you will cover the units required to obtain a Certificate at the end of year one.

This course is designed to provide a very hands on approach to IT and there will be opportunities for work experience.

Additional
Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and Mathematics.
Assessment
All units are internally assessed practical projects and assignments. Grades of Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* are awarded which are equivalent to A levels for the purpose of university entrance.
Progression
Demand for ICT personnel is increasing; consequently job opportunities for well-qualified individuals are high. An ever-increasing number of degree related courses and apprenticeships are now available to extend your understanding and operation of ICT. In many cases IT degree courses are combined with another subject to take advantage of the specialised industries that exploit the use of ICT.
