Physical Education AS/A Level

Physical Education AS/A Level

The PE course combines all the major elements of any study of sport: applied anatomy and exercise physiology; biomechanical movement; skill acquisition; sport psychology; sport and society and the role of technology in physical activity and sport. Alongside this theoretical study of Physical Education, students will be assessed in a competitive situation for one activity as either a performer or a coach. In the second year of the A level course, students will have the opportunity to complete the Level 2 Sports Leaders Award.

Additional
Grade 4 in GCSE English and Combined Science (or two sciences to include Biology). A grade 6 in GCSE PE if taken and demonstrated competence in at least one sport.
Assessment
External exams (70%) and practical assessments and coursework (30%).
Progression
Physical Education is now seen as any other academic qualification. Previous students have been accepted on higher education courses to study sports science, teaching, leisure management, coaching studies and so on. Recently, a large number of our students have gone on to study physiotherapy. Nearly all universities accept Physical Education for their courses and many like the enhanced communication and leadership skills that Physical Education students develop. Physical Education is also a sensible qualification for people considering work in the leisure or health and fitness industry.
