I came to Godalming to take Art Textiles, French and Business Studies with a view to being involved in the fashion industry in some way. Initially I thought that maybe Fashion Marketing or Fashion Buying would be what I studied at university because I hadn’t taken an Art or Textiles GCSE but my love of making things grew into a passion and now I am looking at Fashion Design.

I loved the independence Godalming College gave me. I think it thoroughly prepared me to stand on my own two feet when I got to university. It was one of the main reasons I decided not to stay on at my previous school, as I believed I needed the experience of having to motivate myself. I always enjoyed the freedom I felt at Godalming.

I arrived at Godalming with a future career in mind and a plan for how to get there, after spending a week at a dental practice during work experience at my secondary school. I had fallen in love with dentistry as a subject and knew that was the career for me. Godalming has enabled me to have the best chance of realising my goals, by providing me with the skills, knowledge and support to successfully apply and gain offers to one of the most competitive university courses.

ClassAction, Godalming College’s Theatre Company has been a key component in helping me excel in confidence as a practitioner and develop my skills to their full potential as an Actor. Providing me with regular acting opportunities, whether it be putting on plays, musicals, such as RENT, or organising professional workshops with companies such as Frantic Assembly, there’s never an occasion within the department where nothing exciting is occurring.

My passions involved History and Art so therefore I chose for my AS subjects, Art, Tudor History, History of Art and English Literature. When choosing my Sixth Form College I knew that I wanted to study History of Art, the prominence of this subject in Godalming drew me to this college, but my final choice was swayed by the French revolution in History and the extraordinary Art facilities. The Going to Godalming days helped me secure my choices and made the process of change from school to Sixth Form less daunting.

I came to Godalming with no expectation of what the music department would be like and will be leaving this year genuinely wondering what my time at Godalming would have been without it! I have met some amazing people; fellow students who are now some of my best friends and of course the brilliant staff. I have learnt so much in my time at Godalming about all aspects of music and it has helped me to confirm the decision that I can’t live my life without music in it!

Godalming College has been a great experience for me, not only has it allowed me to sharpen my abilities in the subjects I have chosen but it has also provided me with the necessary tools to enhance my life skills to prepare me for my future. I currently study History and Philosophy A Levels, Music Technology BTEC plus the Music Practitioners qualification as an additional study. I got into music production around 4 years ago, having had piano lessons for 10 years I felt the next step was to compose my own music.

I am really pleased that I chose to study my A levels at Godalming College. I am taking Maths, Physics and Chemistry for A level and Further Maths as an AS level. I have found the whole College very supportive, the subject teachers very much want to help you do as well as you can and they put on extra study sessions to help. For example, Chemistry run a ‘Clinic’ every Friday lunch where you can take homework or classwork that you are finding tricky and a teacher will go through it with you.

I chose my subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and German determined to follow my heart and pick what I loved. This is my best advice to students deciding what to do at college! I am fascinated by human biology, and love learning how Chemistry underpins most biology. I love that in Psychology we look at biology explaining our behaviour, but Psychology also opens your mind to everything in life that influences human behaviour.

Over the past two years I have studied French, Spanish and Geography at Godalming College with the hope of studying modern languages at university. The Spanish classes at Godalming College have been extremely useful. Many of the classes are done in the target language which helps with both listening and speaking. I found the course very interesting and useful for having relevant conversations about contemporary issues such as the environment and immigration.

Godalming College has been a great experience for me. I chose the 2 year BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport, Development and Fitness as I knew that it would support my sporting ability and knowledge as well as to further my understanding for a future career in sport. The course has given me motivation to inspire the younger generation to participate in sport and physical activities and to become healthier and fitter.
