I arrived at Godalming with a future career in mind and a plan for how to get there, after spending a week at a dental practice during work experience at my secondary school. I had fallen in love with dentistry as a subject and knew that was the career for me. Godalming has enabled me to have the best chance of realising my goals, by providing me with the skills, knowledge and support to successfully apply and gain offers to one of the most competitive university courses.

Taking Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths in my first year was a heavy workload, but one I thoroughly enjoyed. Although these have been my favourite subjects for some time, the new topics and methods of learning made everything feel fresh and exciting. The whole atmosphere of learning changes once you get to college and I have relished the change. Study at college is far more independent than at secondary school and at a far more detailed level, but I have felt fully supported throughout my time here. If I ever have any problems or questions there are weekly revision and drop in sessions with subject teachers, or there is the option to arrange private one-to-one meetings with teachers to discuss any areas that are causing difficulty. I feel that the relationship students at Godalming have with staff is excellent. I feel completely comfortable voicing any troubles or concerns with any of my subject teachers and believe that it is the staff that makes Godalming so successful. Teachers have real passion and extended knowledge for their subjects and, no matter the question, they are able and willing to help.

I have also been fortunate enough to be part of the Medical/Dental/Veterinary Science Aim High group at Godalming. Not only have I had additional support and help with the specifics for my university applications for Dentistry from teachers, I have become part of a fantastic group of students all looking to pursue a future in these professions. We have been able to share our experiences and consequently learn from each other, which I have very much appreciated and enjoyed.

As part of the Aim High group I have also taken part in and received awards in both the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and Royal Society Chemistry Olympiad, which have helped to deepen my understanding and skills, as well as strengthening my university applications. I would not have been aware of these competitions without Godalming’s involvement and coaching from my Aim High tutor, ensuring that I felt as prepared as possible.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Godalming and am leaving having gained three, out of a possible four offers for dentistry, all at Russell Group universities. Godalming has enabled me to become a nationally competitive candidate for this and I feel confident and excited as I progress. I have hugely enjoyed learning here and am thankful to all the staff at Godalming who have helped me to reach the next step of my academic journey. I encourage anyone who enjoys sciences at GCSE to continue their learning at Godalming with a fantastic set of staff, brilliant facilities and a cohort who are eager to learn.
