"I came to Godalming because the resources for music are fantastic and the teachers seemed very supportive, they were willing to personalise my experience of college and not make me fit a mould, which I felt was very important. I chose Music Technology because I knew I could learn a lot from the course and I also knew that I would enjoy it. I was home schooled and didn’t have the opportunity to take the full range of GCSEs, therefore my options were limited. I took business and science on advice of the college but I am now really grateful that they persuaded me to take these subjects as I now have a good base for the future. I have been involved with music all my life and attend a theatre school at the weekends which has allowed me to explore different types of music rather than the classical music that I was taught when I was at school. Attending College has given me the freedom to explore my own style of pop music but also given me an experience of life and people that is invaluable. There are lots of students involved in music at the College and the standard of the Orchestra and the Rock Choir is fantastic, I have really enjoyed performing with them. At the latest concert in aid of the Dan Eley Foundation I performed my own composition, Breath. Composing is my first love and after a College visit from the BIMM (British and Irish Modern Music) Institute, I realised that this was the way forward. I had intended to pick up more A levels next year but music is happening for me now and I want to take the opportunity that I have been given to study with BIMM and continue to compose contemporary music."
