For the first time, Godalming College launched its Festival of Equality on Friday 4th October aptly located within Black History Month. Students were able to attend a number of different talks throughout the day including exploring world religions, political equality, love through the ages and racial identities in poetry.
As well as that, students had the opportunity to have their photographs taken in an inflatable booth with some liberating props and to view spectacular performances on identity in the ‘Equalities Show’ organised by the College’s Drama & Performing Arts Department. It was a very enjoyable day raising awareness of protected characteristics in an inclusive and artistic way.
Godalming College is committed to promoting a learning environment where everybody feels respected, valued and accepted in order to reach their potential on their chosen courses. We take addressing Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) very seriously and have two members of staff whose duties include this specific responsibility. We also have a very forward-thinking, proactive and progressive Students’ Union with an officer dedicated to EDI and without their commitment and organisation, the day would not have been such a success.
