For our first Aspire event for Year 9 students across the Waverley Federation, schools selected students who worked in mixed teams to research art works at Watts Gallery.
They talked with staff about career options within the museum world and enjoyed chatting with our own College Ambassadors about their future A Level choices. At the end of the day, each team gave a presentation on why their artefact was important and why they felt it was relevant today.
Their articulate and imaginative talks impressed the judging panel of Principal, Emma Young, the Head of Learning at Watts Gallery and our ex-student Abbie Latham who now works as a trainee curator at Watts Gallery – putting her History of Art A Level and degrees to excellent use.
As Britain’s creative industries continue to grow and cultural capital for all young people creeps up the educational agenda, it is great to see this initiative bring together all the Federation schools with the gallery and college at the hub.
