Paralympian Rachel Morris MBE was the special guest of Dan Eley at the Foundation’s Spring Benefit Concert where Godalming College students performed a fantastic array of musical genres to a packed audience, which also included the Mayors of Waverley and Godalming and representatives of Surrey Youth Focus, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and Surrey Youth Services.

Visiting the home of the world's largest physics experiment

We spent the whole of Wednesday in the CERN complex visiting the first accelerator to be built on the site: the Synchro-cyclotron and an amazing underground visit to see the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector up close. We saw first-hand the staggering scale and complexity of the experiments being carried out. At over 20m long and more than 15m high, buried 100m underground we were able to watch as engineers worked on the heart of the detector which acts like a giant digital camera capable of taking 40 million ‘images’ per second.

Orchestral Manoeuvres

Music Students have enjoyed three fantastic trips this term to experience outstanding live orchestral music. Firstly, a visit to the Albert Hall for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's 70th Anniversary Concert. The second was again the Royal Philharmonic at the Albert Hall but this time the performance was Best of Broadway. The third a visit to St Luke's to see the London Symphony Orchestra AS and A2 set works, Schumann’s Piano Trio in G minor and Mozart's Piano Sonata in Bb.

ClassAction Theatre are one of the only companies who have been given permission to stage this legendary and landmark musical as it celebrates its 20th anniversary at the end of 2016 outside of the professional production that will be playing in London at the end of the year.

Robert Honey wins engineering prize
