This vocational qualification oers a practical
approach, and you will be challenged to work to
professional standards of creative collaboration. You
will develop the knowledge and skills required to
choreograph and perform solo and group dances
through practical technique classes, observation,
analysis and evaluation. Anatomy and physiology
are linked with the dancer in action. You will be
encouraged to find your own unique artistic voice as
a dancer.
You will have opportunities to work with visiting
professionals in workshops and to see live dance
performances. We are a department of collaboration,
creation and innovation and, as a Dance student, you
will be involved in the lively artistic life of the College
as a ClassAction practitioner.
Students from this course have been successful in
progressing to RADA, Urdang, Bristol Old Vic, Royal
Central School of Speech and Drama, Lamda, GSA,
East 15, Drama Centre, Mountview, Arts Ed, Birds,
Performers, LABAN, The Place.
Additional
Grade 4 in English plus GCSE Dance or equivalent contemporary dance experience/physical skills.
Assessment
There will be a combination of internally assessed projects and assignments, together with externally examined units.
Progression
BTEC Dance can lead to degree courses in Dance, Performing Arts and Education, professional performance work, community work and therapy courses. This course gives students a wide choice of progression options.
As well as students studying the range of performing art subjects at many universities, over the past few years we have had students gain places at institutes such as RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Lamda, GSA, East 15, Drama Centre, Mountview, Arts Ed, Birds, Performers, LABAN, London Contemporary Dance School, Urdang.
