"I applied to Godalming College believing it was the ideal stepping-stone between secondary education and university; it did not disappoint! I have been encouraged to develop an independent learning style and yet the staff are always on hand to support and encourage. The facilities are excellent and, despite its size,
it is very friendly and welcoming.

I am keen to pursue a career in midwifery and by attending the Open Evening I was able to talk to staff and receive information about each subject. I chose to study Chemistry to AS-Level, which was hard work but a lot of fun, and Biology, Geography and Psychology to A2. Although A-Level Biology is a necessity for most midwifery courses, the syllabus is of great interest, covering a wide range of human and plant biology. In Geography, physical and human topics are studied and I have been taught to critically analyse the world around me. The classroom-based theory was supplemented by two most enjoyable fieldtrips featuring some typically British weather! Psychology was a new area of study for me and I found Developmental Psychology particularly intriguing due to my interest in midwifery.

In my second year, I was encouraged to undertake an additional study, so I chose an Extended Project Qualification. I chose to investigate the Millennium Development Goals, which incorporate my interest in midwifery and my love of Geography. This knowledge was extremely valuable at university interview.

Godalming College operates an ‘Aim High’ programme and this supports university applications. Enthusiastic members of staff offer expert guidance, a thorough reference and interview practice. Through this programme, opportunities arose to compete in the British Biology and Chemistry Olympiads, which enhanced my personal statement. I would not hesitate in recommending Godalming College to any prospective student – it truly has been the best two years!"
