"I came to Godalming College because I heard about the excellent teaching facilities within their drama and textiles departments which are the areas most important to me. I chose to study Dance, Drama and Textiles, a combination of courses which allowed me to develop my practical skills as well as my theoretical knowledge alongside fellow practitioners with similar interests. Textiles has been a really fun course, giving me the right amount of freedom to develop my own individual ideas under the guidance of my teacher’s expertise. Drama has encouraged me to push my boundaries and develop as a confident individual whilst working in a professional and innovative environment. My Dance course has introduced me to a variety of different choreographers, genres and dance works that I was unfamiliar with, and through collaborating with others on my course we have been able to create some extraordinary performances.

Although initially I did not know what I wanted to study further, throughout the two years my teachers have opened my eyes to a wide variety of career prospects within these areas of interest. During a project in my AS Dance course, I had to undertake the role of Production Manager, a job that introduced me to the exciting world of backstage theatre. After researching the requirements to get into this type of course, my teachers supported me in producing a portfolio for the college’s modern production of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which demonstrated my textiles abilities through costume design and drama background through stage management. Following this I have been offered a place to study Stage Management and Technical Theatre at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art) in September. Hopefully leading to a career in the production aspect of theatre and film."
