Careers in the making

It has been an active term as far as Careers Education goes with the emphasis on 'the future' for our first year students.  Over 100 students enjoyed a day at Sandown Park talking to local and National employers about alternatives to university at the National Apprenticeship Show.  The following week, despite a snowy weekend, 750 students made it to the UCAS Convention at Surrey Sports Park and returned with bags full of university prospectus and full of ideas about where they would like to study.

The Careers Day on the 20th March provided opportunities for students to listen to talks and ask questions about Employability, Apprenticeships, University Life, Personal Statements, Gap Year and  Art Foundation.

A Next Steps evening invited parents and students to further talks, including a talk involving our Careers Advisers who described all the options available and how to access them.

More than 30 exhibitors joined us for a Careers Fair, these included our most popular universities,a range of employers and apprenticeship providers and gap year organisations. The evening was very well attended and students and parents appreciated being able to talk directly with the attendees.

We were also delighted to welcome back several ex-Godalming College students to our Careers Fair who are now working for IBM, Waverley Borough Council, Enterprise, Fujitsu and the University of Winchester, some of whom had found out about the opportunity at a talk on Careers Day or the Next Steps Evening in the past.

Later this week a group of students will be attending the Oxbridge Conference at Epsom Racecourse to find out more about the opportunities on offer at Oxford and Cambridge University.
