Lorna is on her way to the World Choir Games
First year Godalming College student Lorna Shephard will be making her way to the World Choir Games in Belgium next year along with her fellow members of the Farnham Youth Choir.
"Ever since I was young, singing has been a really big part of my life and something that I have always had a passion for" says Lorna. It all started when I joined the FYC Training Choir when I was 8 years old and 9 years later, I am still singing as part of the same organisation, but am part of the senior choir (for ages 12-18). We have performed in many prestigious venues such as Notre Dame, The Vatican and Wembley SSE Arena (accompanying one of the finalists on last years X Factor).
"Last summer, we took part in the European Choir Games in Gothenburg where we won gold medals in both categories we entered (Youth and Sacred Music). It was an amazing experience and we were able to meet and make links with lots of choirs from as far afield as the USA, China and Italy."
In July next year will be competing in the World Choir Games which is to be held in Belgium. We have an automatic entry because of our success this summer, but the standard will be even higher and we’ll be competing against some of the best choirs in the world! We've already started learning our new repertoire and have lots of hard work ahead of us. I am very excited to see what the next year holds for our choir! "
