Arts Festival 2018

A fabulous sunny evening set the scene for a major event in Godalming College’s calendar, the Arts Festival. The festival showcased work from arts based subjects such Art, Textiles, Photography, Media, Music Film, Digital Creative Technology, Drama, Dance and History of Art.  These subjects are a thriving, vibrant part of the College and the evening did not disappoint with a massive appreciation of the hard work and creativity of the students of the College.

The exhibition of work from one of the best art departments in the country showcased Art, Textiles and Photography work of an incredibly high standard from second year students most of whom will be taking their places on Art Foundation Courses or direct entry into Arts courses at university.

The Drama students performed and produced a stunning and thoughtful set of performances including a play entitled 24 Storeys which was devised from the testimony, interviews and broadcasts given by individuals involved in the Grenfell fire disaster. A series of superb dance performances then captivated the crowd with rhythm, melody and movement.

The Design Show provided an amazing display of work from the Graphic Design students and Product Design students complete with finished models of furniture, lighting, architectural buildings, advertising, promotional items and even a walking aid.

Media and Film, as always provided a fantastic variety of films from student work, some imaginative fiction and others factual documentaries.  All were absorbing, inducing a range of emotions from their audience.

Parents, VIPs and the local community were invited to the College for a preview evening and enjoyed a glass of wine and barbeque in the Piazza along with music from the College Jazz Band, the Godalming College Singers and the Chamber Choir.

Olly Stevens, Director of Faculty for the Arts and Science comments “The Arts Festival this year has been amazing.  Students should be congratulated for their hard work and dedication; they have been a privilege to teach.  The work on display in both the creative and performing arts is first class and a real credit to the College.  I am also so proud of our dedicated staff who continue to raise the profile of the Arts amongst our young people, helping them to take risks, reflect, explore and comment on the complex world around them.”
