Applications 2024: Ballot and Appeals Process

We are no longer accepting applications for September 2024. The College has received a record number of applications this year, meaning that remaining spaces available for entry in 2024 were subject to a ballot.

All Applicants who were subject to a ballot have already been informed via e-mail.

A computer generated (and independently verified) ballot has randomly allocated the remaining spaces. The College has informed students whether they have been successful.

Applicants who were unsuccessful in the ballot will be held on our system and should anything change, the College would get in contact.  However, it is unlikely given the volume of oversubscription, that the College will be able to process further applications.  Therefore, all unsuccessful applicants are advised to secure a place at an alternative post 16 provider.

Appeals:

Appeals will only be considered from applicants who submitted by the deadline of midday on 15th January 2024.  Appeals must be submitted to the Principal, in writing to college@godalming.ac.uk, no later than midday on 21st February 2024 and must include written confirmation that Godalming College is the applicant's preferred option for post 16 study and will be the only place held.

The College will give serious consideration to appeals on the following grounds:

  • Where one sibling (living in the same household) has been successful, and the other has been unsuccessful
  • Where exceptional and current personal or medical circumstances are having a direct impact on the Applicant and here a strong case can be made for the Applicants’ welfare and educational progress best being served by the offer of a place at the College.  Please note the circumstances must be sufficiently serious to justify advancing an individual applicant over those not offered a place

Further supporting documentary evidence will be required to reach an appropriate judgement.  In particular, where an appeal is based on personal or medical circumstances, a supporting letter from the school and/or medical practitioner will be required.

The following circumstances do not qualify as grounds for appeal:

  • Lack of access to or availability of a particular course at other institutions
  • A situation where a friend of an unsuccessful applicant has been offered a place
  • Learning difficulties and disabilities which do not qualify for an Education Health Care Plan
  • High levels of academic achievement
  • Lack of awareness of the deadline changing/not being aware of the College Admissions Policy/dissatisfaction with being subject to a ballot

The decision of the Appeal Panel is final.

GCSE results: You must meet the entry requirements for the College and the courses you wish to study. These are based on your GCSE results you receive in August.  You must achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4 to qualify for a Level 3 Study Programme.  The absence of GCSE English Language will significantly restrict study programme options.  Equivalent qualifications at Level 2 in vocational courses (at MERIT or above) are accepted where they are directly related to the courses which have been applied for. Please also note each course has specific entry requirements that are published on this website in the 'Courses' section.
