College Performance

As a College our performance is ultimately measured by the successes and achievements of our students, and this is always about so much more than our excellent examination results.  This overview provides information on some of the key areas of our performance, but we hope that our website overall will give you a comprehensive understanding of the College and the achievements of our wonderful students.

Performance Tables

The Department for Education (DfE) publishes performance tables on all education providers of primary, secondary and 16-18 education. Post 16 providers are measured by progress, retention, English and Maths and student destinations. The performance tables also report on Ofsted judgements, finance data and other aspects of a school or college’s operation. As well as our recent Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ judgement, the performance measures further demonstrate the excellence of our results at Godalming.

Above Average 0.22

A Level Progress Score (Value Added): This is an analysis of how much progress students make from their prior attainment at GCSE to their final outcomes at A Level:

Our A Level Progress Score of 0.22 means that Godalming students, on average, achieve one fifth of a grade higher than expected. As Ofsted state: ‘The proportion of students who make better than expected progress is very high’.

Student Progression

Enabling students to successfully progress after Godalming is a key priority for us.

We take pride in supporting students with their applications to their chosen destination, whatever it may be. In addition to a coordinated approach to progression in Personal Tutorial sessions we also run a bespoke 'Future Fridays' programme to help students understand all progression options. As a result, students leave Godalming with confidence and optimism about the future.

We are particularly proud of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) data which demonstrates that the education and all-round experience that students have at Godalming is excellent preparation for success at degree level.

Ofsted

Godalming College has once again retained its Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ status following an inspection in November 2024. This is a proud moment for our amazing teaching and support staff, trustees, as well as our wonderful students who have all contributed to this success.  It is a high bar to sustain over such a prolonged period, but this is recognition of the relentless drive we have at the College to provide the very best experience for our students.

Some highlights from the Inspection report are as follows:

  • Students value the very positive and welcoming community at Godalming College.  They benefit from highly knowledgeable teachers who create very calm, orderly environments that allow them to focus on their learning exceptionally well.
  • Students enjoy their experience at the college and attend well.
  • Students are highly motivated and studious and make excellent progress while they are at college.
  • Teachers provide effective feedback on students’ work that makes sure they know very precisely what they have done well and where they need to improve.
  • Teachers provide numerous opportunities for students to practise exam-style questions and consider model answers.
  • Leaders and staff are ambitious for students, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities or those who face disadvantage.
  • Staff work with students to identify their support needs early in their time at college and put appropriate support in place.
  • Nearly all students complete their programme and pass their final assessments.  Many students studying A Levels achieve the highest grades of A* to B. A very high proportion of students studying BTECs achieve a merit or distinction grade.
  • ‘Leaders have implemented a high-quality careers programme that is tailored to their students’ aspirations. Students receive support from teachers to complete their university applications successfully. Leaders provide students with a range of internal and external careers events, where they hear from higher education institutions and employers and are informed of apprenticeship opportunities well.’

"Students are highly motivated and studious and make excellent progress while they are at college."
