Just short of 90 students departed from Godalming College via coach on July 9th for their Gold DofE Qualifying expedition in the Elan Valley, Wales. They had planned all of their routes beforehand starting with a one night stay at base camp, Dol Llys Farm. The next 3 nights of the expedition were either wild camping or camping on small farms in the Cambrian Mountains. The students were well prepared having had a full training weekend on site at Godalming college earlier in the year and a Practice expedition to the same area in March.
Despite some challenging weather the students showed incredible resilience and were stoic in their teamwork remaining cheerful throughout. Expedition Wales staff and assessors were highly professional and did a great job supporting and encouraging our students. The highlight was the end point of the expedition at the coast for a paddle in the sea having successfully walked across the Cambrian mountains. An expedition to remember!
