Summer I (Law A Level)

How has this subject shaped your future? it’s taught me to be more open minded because the law always asks you to look at multiple angles and consider multiple factors… there’s two sides to every story and the truth lies somewhere in between.

How were the lessons and How did the teachers help/ advise you?

The teachers are so dedicated and focused on maximising each student’s aspirations and goals. They put 100% into everything they do. They provide us with all the information that we need; especially for year 13 I have found this incredibly helpful because one of the resources they give us is predictions on topic areas to focus on due to past paper questions being on other topics. They provide us with a structured revision lesson plan and give us the opportunity to do practice questions (30markers). Whenever I write an answer, I always ask her to mark it and she always says yes and gives it back to me the next lesson which is amazing because it gives me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes in an efficient period of time. I feel genuinely supported and comfortable because of how warm and accommodating they are!

What skills have you developed as a result? I do feel less naive and more prepared in the real world; it’s a great subject that arms you when dealing with daily life. It helps you understand that there are multiple solutions to one problem. I like how the law is very inclusive and flexible.

What has studying the subject taught you in the wider sense? Law is definitely an applicable subject that we use all the time without realising. For example, in contract law, that’s really helpful with knowing what you as a customer are entitled to and when or when not you could potentially take someone to court if they’ve broken their agreement. I’ve found that when I read newspaper articles related to the law, I do often find that their terminology is wrong most often it’s when someone has been assaulted which is actually incorrect because assault is just causing someone to apprehend fear rather than being physically hurt/injured because in that case it would be battery.
