Society functions within an economy and everyone is affected by the economical state of the world. Studying Economics at A-Level has granted me the knowledge and the opportunity to participate in economic discussions. I can understand terms on the news concerning the economy such as interest rates, financial markets, and current accounts. This has given me practical understanding of real-world issues; I can interpret economic data which allows me to assess economic situations and make reasonable personal judgements.
Studying macroeconomics has given me the ability to understand the general economy, things such as inflation, unemployment and recessions that affect society worldwide. Microeconomics covers the individual markets, it has taught me to understand consumer behaviour, price mechanisms, resource allocation and market structures. The course covers government interventions such as taxation and subsidies, all which is truly relevant today.
Economics is a very structured course, there are tick lists at the end of each topic to make sure you know all the terms. Teachers provide you with exemplar essays and essay structures to assist with written work. Staff also provide a lot of support and are keen to making sure all students understand the topics perfectly and feel confident writing exam style essays. Students go through exam questions consistently throughout the course and you can feel free to drop off essays to the teachers that will mark them for you and let you know what you need to work on.
Studying Economics has expanded my understanding of the world economy and why it functions in the ways that it does. It sparked my interest in statistics, and I am now planning to study Maths and Statistics at university. It is a very relevant subject and truly interesting.
