Unit 1 | Careers in Sport |
Unit 2 | Health, Wellbeing and Sport |
Unit 3 | Developing Coaching Skills in Sport |
You will also complete the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership
A minimum of five GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above including English. An interest in Sport is needed and students must be willing to regularly coach and participate in practical sport. GCSE PE is beneficial and if a student has studied it, a minimum of a grade 4 would be recommended.
All units are assessed by staff at the college using a range of assessment opportunities. These may be written coursework, posters, oral presentations, practical performance assessment and group assessments. There are no exams on this course.
Beneficial extra preparation for the course could be watching YouTube videos of coaching sessions to gain insight into drills and ideas across a range of different sports. Documentaries on sports teams and stereotypical behaviour will also help with the Sports development side of the course. Knowledge of first aid would also be advantageous but not compulsory.
Throughout the course you will develop excellent knowledge of skills and theories of coaching alongside the ability to apply these to practical situations. You will also develop the skills to analyse and evaluate different aspects of the sporting industry. The course offers opportunities to improve your leadership, communication and team cohesion and these are all things that will help you with future careers.

Such as the provision of individual/group sports activities, health promotion, coaching/instructing of specialist groups and community development. The course is also very suitable for progression to Higher Education courses in sports development, management and coaching, but also actively supports a variety of subject combinations.
